Donald Earl Muirhead, 81, of Ennis, Texas died Monday morning at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas after a long illness. Mr. Muirhead was born June 11, 1931 to Earl & Juanita Wright Muirhead in Ennis, Texas and attended Ennis High School. After a football injury cut short his college education, he followed in his father’s footsteps and pursued a career as an auctioneer and rancher. Excelling in this, Mr. Muirhead served as head auctioneer at the world famous Ft. worth Stockyards for almost 20 years, as well as the Ennis Livestock Auction. Mr. Muirhead retired in 1977, working as a part time rancher and full time father.

Mr. Muirhead was an active volunteer with several organizations in his community throughout his life. He actively volunteered with the 4H Club and the Lord’s Acre Sale in Bethel, Texas for several years. He also volunteered at the IOOF retirement home, as well as the Golden Circle Senior Center in Ennis. He was a founding member of Baylor Baptist Church.

Mr. Muirhead was preceded in death by his wife, Jackie Jo Muirhead in 1977. He is survived by one son, Clay Robert Muirhead of Dallas, two sisters, Mrs. Ann Potter of Dallas and Mrs. Earlene Beauchamp of Friendswood, Texas, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside Memorial service will be held at Hillcrest Burial Park in Waxahachie on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at 11am with services being handled by J.E. Keever Mortuary.

Those friends wishing to make a memorial rather than send flowers, the family asks you make them in his name to The American Cancer Society or Meals On Wheels on Ellis County.
