Billy Earl Doherty, 85, went home to be with his Savior on Sunday August 23rd, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones.

Bill was born in Ennis, Texas on November 15, 1940 to Elmer and Mildred Walker Doherty. He graduated from Ennis High School in 1959 and went on to attend North Texas State University. He married the love of his life, Margaret Anderson, on July 20, 1962.

Bill was a very hard working man his entire life. He cherished spending time with family from an early age. He and his brothers Gerald and Gary started their first business in 1973 with the help from their dad. After retiring from Doherty Brothers Construction, he spent his time restoring vintage cars. Buying, selling and trading the cars at swap meets was something he greatly enjoyed while making many friends over the years. When he was not working on cars, he loved to fish with his family. But more than anything he loved spending his time with his kids, grandkids and his great grand kids that he referred to as his Critters.

He was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Mildred Doherty, his wife Margaret Doherty, his brothers Gary and Gerald Doherty, and his nephew Chris Cooper.

He is survived by his son Rusty and wife Linda Doherty, daughter Laura and husband Billy Banks, grandchildren Tyler Farris, Hannah and husband Jason Vavra, Bailee and husband Travis Duck, Cameron Farris and wife Emily, Tanner Doherty, Ashley Chaney and Taylor Banks, great-grandchildren Brynlee, Sevannah, Avery, Gracyn, Georgia, Graham, Claire, Camdyn and Roxen, sister Janice and husband Tim Cooper and sisters-in-law Nita Doherty and Diane Liska, bother-in-law Jerry Anderson and wife, Linda.

Visitation will be Wednesday, August 26th from 6-8pm at J.E. Keever Mortuary in Ennis. A celebration of life will be held Thursday, August 27th at 10am at J.E. Keever Chapel, with Dr. Jim Pollard officiating. Pallbearers will be Tyler Farris, Hannah and Jason Vavra, Cameron Farris, Tanner Doherty and Adam Cooper. Interment will follow at Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
