Billy Steven Oates, 85, of Palmer, Texas, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 10, 2026. A proud lifelong resident of Palmer, Billy was born on October 19, 1940, to Thomas Monroe Oates and Polly Barker Oates.

Bill shared 63 beautiful years of marriage with the love of his life and soulmate, Lepha Brumley Oates. The love they had for one another was undeniable - the way they looked at each other could simply melt your heart. Their marriage was a true testament of devotion, faith, and enduring love.

He was a devoted father to this sons, Timothy Steven Oates and wife, Susan and Scott Ryan Oates and wife, Lindsey. Billy was a proud and loving grandfather to seven grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren, each of whom he cherished deeply. His family was his greatest joy and blessing.

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Monroe Oates and Polly Barker Oates; his brother, Jimmy T. Oates; and his sister, Betty Oates Tims. He is survived by his brother, Gary Wayne Oates, as well as may beloved nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, extended family members, and countless dear friends.

Billy worked faithfully for 28 years at Procter & Gamble before retiring. Believing the Lord still had more for him to do, he began a second career for Palmer ISD, where he served another 10 years before retiring again. He was a man who believed in purpose, service and community.

A proud Texas through and through, Billy loved Palmer with all his heart and took great pride in his hometown roots. He was a giving and caring man who never hesitated to help someone in need. His kindness, warm smile, and generous spirit made him adored by many.

The family would also like to extend a special thank you to his best friend, Sonny, whose friendship meant the world to Billy. We are forever grateful for the love, loyalty, and care he showed.

While our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in knowing that Billy's faith has become sight. We celebrate a life well lived, a legacy of love, and the promise that we will see him again.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, beginning at 1 p.m., with services at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Palmer, 200 S Sherman St, Palmer, TX 75152. Burial will follow at Palmer Cemetery in Palmer under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
