Carolyn Sue "Susy" Louthan

Carolyn Sue "Susy" Louthan went home to be with the Lord early Sunday, July 5, 2026, at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Waxahachie, Texas.

Susy was born on July 27, 1943, in Mineral Wells, Texas, to Joe D. and Helen Gafford.  The family moved to Lubbock, and she graduated from Monterey High School.  She met the love of her life, Bert Louthan, and they married in 1964, beginning a beautiful journey together that spanned 62 wonderful years. Their marriage was filled with love, family, and countless shared adventures.

The couple welcomed two sons while living in Houston before moving to Arlington, where they raised their family. They later retired to Richland Chambers Lake, where Bert enjoyed countless hours fishing while Susy devoted herself to her beautiful gardens.

During her years in Arlington, Susy worked as a property manager for Ebby Halliday Realtors. She had a lifelong passion for gardening and earned her Master Gardener certification. She was an active member of the Corsicana Garden Club and generously volunteered countless hours helping beautify the community she loved. Susy also dedicated her time to volunteering at the local animal shelter, reflecting her compassionate spirit and love for animals.

Above all, Susy cherished her family. Her greatest joy was being "Grandma" to her three grandchildren, and she treasured every moment spent with Lucas, Beau, and Campbell. Susy will be remembered for her kindness, green thumb, and unwavering love for her family.

She is survived by her husband, Bert, her sons and their families: Patrick Louthan and his wife, Julie, of Dacono, Colorado, and their sons, Lucas and Beau; and Shelby Louthan and his wife, Misty, of Corsicana, Texas, and their daughter, Campbell. She is also survived by her brothers, Bill Gafford of Lubbock, Texas, and David Gafford of Round Rock, Texas, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe D. and Helen Gafford; and her sister, Helen Jo Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of Navarro County .
