Charlene Ortiz, 83, passed away Sunday, May 2, 2021 in Ennis, Texas.

Charlene was born in Rankin, Texas on February 24, 1938 to Ignacio and Aurora (Muniz) Martinez.  She grew up in Ennis.  On August 14, 1952 she married Ponciano Ortiz and they made their home in San Antonio.

Charlene worked as a lead for Bill Stories for twenty years, for Ennis Care Center for ten years as an aide, for All Star Bowling for ten years and for Lone Star Laundry for ten years.

Charlene enjoyed crocheting, sewing and working in the garden.

Charlene is survived by sons: Jamie Ortiz, Ricky Ortiz, Bruce Ortiz, Johnny Ray Ortiz, Ponciano Ortiz, Jr. and Albert Ortiz; daughters: Yolanda Ortiz, Melinda Martinez and Gloria Stroud; twenty-six grandchildren: fourteen great-grandchildren: three great-great-grandchildren; brothers: Ralph Martinez, Jesse Martinez, Johnny Martinez and Robert Martinez; sister, Elvira Davila and a host of extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents Ignacio and Aurora Martinez; sisters: Gloria Martinez, Beatrice Ortiz, granddaughter, Lisa Ortiz and son-in-law Joe Correa.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 6, 2021 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 10 a.m. in St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis.  Pallbearers will be Brian Dyson, Ricky Ortiz, Rudy Sanchez, Jr., Collen Ortiz, Jude Martinez and Bobby Ortiz, Jr.  Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
