Charlie Joseph Pouzar, 85, of Ennis, Texas, peacefully passed away at home on Wednesday, August 26, 2026.

Born on July 3, 1941 to Charlie F. and Emma (Cvach) Pouzar, he lived on the family farm in Crisp, Texas his entire life. After his mother’s death, his father married Mary Cvach and together they raised Charlie. Charlie graduated from St. John Nepomucene Catholic High School with the class of 1959.

In 1961, he married his sweetheart, Adell Marusak, and they remained faithfully married for nearly 65 years until death, building a beautiful family and a legacy rooted in love, faith, and commitment.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Adell, his daughter, Carol Alston and husband, Bob, his son, Jeff Pouzar and wife, Lily, and his daughter, Kathleen Bronstad and husband, Darin. He has eight grandchildren: Ann Li, married to David, Claire Walker, married to Nick, Monica Duran, married to Marcos, Grace Garay, married to Arturo, Amelie Bronstad, Anders Bronstad, Charlie M. Pouzar, and Joseph Pouzar. He leaves a legacy of thirteen great-grandchildren: Sophie Li, Margie Li, Henry Walker, Norman Walker, Cecil Walker, Molly Walker, Daphne Walker, Marcel Duran, Moises Duran, Mateo Duran, Maya Duran, Miguel Duran, and Emma Garay as well as many, dear extended family members and friends, including his sister-in-law, Dorothy, his brother-in-law, Raymond, and his sister-in-law, Janie.

As a young man, Charlie was employed by Ennis Automotive and worked his way up over 45 years, retiring as a plant engineer. He could solve problems that no one else could by looking at them from all different angles. On his ranch, he raised cattle and chickens and did custom work cutting and baling hay. He had a special love for animals and would befriend the birds who sang from the trees outside his barns and workshop. Mockingbirds would even eat pecans from his hand. The stars held a special wonder for him, too, and he would often spend hours looking out at the dark night sky on the farm and sharing his awe with his three children. Charlie was a bit of an adventurer and traveled to see where his roots lie in Moravia. He traveled to Alaska to see the glaciers and sailed the Caribbean with polka bands. He gained a great deal of pleasure from driving his Model A Ford in the Ennis Polka Fest most years, and he could often be seen polka dancing around town. He loved being Santa on Christmas Eve. In his later years, Charlie also enjoyed visiting casinos for some lucky fun with the three Matous brothers, Raymond, Stanley, and Wesley. He was a friend to everyone, and everyone has a good thing to say about good ole Charlie Pouzar.

A man of deep Catholic faith, Charlie will be remembered for his devotion to family, his curious and inventive spirit, his appreciation for nature, and the comfort and fun he brought to those around him. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life and cherished every opportunity to celebrate life’s moments with those he loved. His memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege to know him.

Rosary will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 9 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel in Ennis.  

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. in St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that Masses be offered for the repose of Charlie’s soul or that memorial donations be made to St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
