David Alexander Gregory was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, on December 7, 1948, to Rudolph McNair Gregory and Celeste Morgan Gregory. He passed away on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, in Ennis, Texas.

David was an extraordinary man with a genuine love for others. While in elementary school, he devoured books on antiques, and became knowledgeable in antiques at an early age.  As a young boy, he wanted books on antiques as gifts for birthday and Christmas!  David attended Duke University, and earned a Masters of Divinity Degree from Yale University.  He was in Who's Who in college and junior college.  He earned a certification in Antiques Appraising from Stony Brook, New York, and appraised antiques in the Southeast and in Texas.  David had the manners of a Southern Gentleman, and was unfailingly kind.  He was known as Smiley in some circles because of his sunny personality.  He was also a good storyteller, had a great sense of humor and was extremely quick-witted.  David avidly painted hats, belts, shoes, watchbands, art objects, purses, sunglasses, birdhouses, seashells, furniture and most anything else in brilliant colors.  He loved wearing his multicolored shoes, and was constantly stopped by people to ask where he got them. They were amazed when  he told them he painted them himself.   He also had commissions to paint shoes for others.

David leaves behind a sister, Sandra Gregory Wakefield, a nephew, Gregory Scott Wakefield and his wife, Diena Wakefield, and a niece, Stephanie Sorrels. David was preceded in death by his parents, and he now rejoices in the presence of his Savior Jesus.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, from noon until 2 p.m.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rev. Bob Thomas officiating.
