Douglas Craig Meier went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 28, 2021, after a brave battle with cancer, surrounded by his family in his home.

Doug was born on February 12, 1951 in Fredericksburg and grew up in Priddy, Texas. He attended Tarleton State University, was President of the APO Chapter, served in the ROTC, and earned his bachelors and Masters degree in Ag Education in 1974.As a man of many talents, over the years he was known as an Bronc Rider, Ag Teacher, Auctioneer, Insurance Agent, Ordained Minister, General Contractor, Recycle/Salvage man, Zamboni driver, Sheep Shearer, Skid Steer Operator, and a Cattle Rancher. Opening Meier Recycle in 2004, He enjoyed the salvage business in the latter years of his life. Doug was very involved with his church, the Cowboy Church of Ennis. He loved hunting and also spent many hours doing volunteer work as an auctioneer. His booming voice and joyful smile was loved by all, and appreciated by the animals that he hunted.

Doug is survived by his two children, Mindi Meier Kavanaugh and Ray Kavanaugh of College Station, and Craig and Angie Meier of Ennis, and a sister, Bridget Davis of Priddy, as well as ten grandchildren (Monica, Maci, Molli, Marshall, Miranda, Myla, Loralyn, Rody, Levi, Riley) and one great-grandchild (Ellis).

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Jean Meier. His parents Milton and Joyce Meier, and his brother Brian Meier.

Celebration of Life service for Doug Meier will be held this Sunday January 31st at The Cowboy Church of Ennis. Service will begin at 5:00pm and will be followed by a BBQ dinner. Doug was one of a kind and we know there are countless stories out there that we would love to hear about this great man. Doug loved to entertain, and make people smile, laugh. There will be an open mic so his friends and family can share their stories and continue his legacy of entertainment.
