Berten Doyle Marchbanks Passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, April 23, 2021, after a brief illness. Doyle was born on September 16, 1933, and Haskell, Texas to Berten Willie and Juanita (Brooks) Marchbanks. Doyle attended grade school in Boyce, Texas and when the family moved to Ellis County, he attended school in Ennis, Texas. He graduated from Ennis High School in 1951. On June 7, 1953, Doyle married JoAnn Wortman. To this union, four children were born: Dirk, Larry, Barry, and Cassey. Doyle and JoAnn raised their children in Hearne, Texas where Doyle worked for Southern Pacific Railroad and then The United States postal system. In 1974 Doyle transferred from the Hearne post office to the Ennis post office and retired in 1998 after 32 years of employment. After retirement Doyle enjoyed hunting for bargains at thrift stores and garage sales, spending time with family members, attending lodge meetings, driving for Ennis Ford and following the Baylor Bears. Doyle had a heart of a servant and was constantly wanting to serve others. For 36 years Doyle was a dedicated member of the independent order of Oddfellow Lodge #227 in Ennis, Texas. The command of the I.O.O.F. is to "visit the sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead, and educate the orphan." Specifically, one purpose of the I.O.O.F. is to improve and elevate character of mankind by promoting the principles of friendship, love, truth, faith, hope, charity, and universal justice. Questions Doyle would ask on a daily basis would be "are we helping everyone we can right now?", "Is there anyone we need to help?", "Do you have everything you need?" "Are we taking care of the people? "Doyle was honored to serve as Grand Chaplin for the state of Texas for several terms. He also served on the local board of trustees. Together, Doyle and JoAnn served the I.O.O.F. Lodge of Ennis in many capue ities for several years visiting the Oddfellow/Rebekah independent living facility in Ennis where Doyle offered a Sunday morning devotional while JoAnn provided the music on the piano and with her beautiful voice. Doyle was a devout Christian and praised God constantly for his many blessings. Doyle was an active member of Tabernacle Baptist Church in Ennis for over 35 years and most recent a member of Baylor Baptist Church in Ennis. Doyle is preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, JoAnn, his parents Berten and Juanita Marchbanks, son Larry Marchbanks and sister Aline Arnold. Survivors include his sons, Dirk and wife Wendy, Barry and wife Shelly, daughter Cassey and husband Dan Chapman, 12 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and his sister Gale Osmera. Box 283, Ennis, TX 75119 Visitation will be from Noon to 2 PM on Wednesday, April 28, 2021. The funeral service will be in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Inc. chapel on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at 2 PM with Rev. Craig Krieger officiating. Keever Mortuary Inc.
