Elva Fira Castillo, 79, passed away in Ennis, Texas on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

She was born on April 24, 1947 in Sinton, TX and relocated to Ennis, TX at age 14, where she remained for the remainder of her life. She was a supervisor at Star Award Ribbons for several years before her retirement in 2021.

Family meant everything to Elva. Just like her brothers, Elva was an amazing cook and she enjoyed preparing Sunday breakfast for her family, making tamales during the holidays, enjoyed going shopping with her sister in laws, and grabbing a burger with her cousins, affectionally known as “The Golden Girls.” Her dining table was open to all, and was a place filled with laughter, tears, heartfelt conversations, and occasionally a sprinkling of good-friendly gossip.

She was proceeded in death by her husband Henry Castillo in 2024, her father Rosendo “Roy” Fira Sr., her mother Didia “Grande” Fira, her niece Denise Brandy Fira, and her beloved three brothers Raymond Fira, Roy Fira Jr., and Ricardo Fira.

She is survived by her son Ricky Castillo of Ennis, TX, son Edward "Eddie" Castillo of Dallas, TX, niece Carissa Castillo of Dallas, TX, grandson Devin Robinson and his wife Hannah Robinson of Watauga, Texas, great-granddaughter Violet Robinson and great-grandson Ellis Robinson also of Watauga, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Although Elva will be missed, her family is comforted in knowing she is rejoicing in God’s Heavenly light and celebrating with her family in Heaven. She is now with her husband, her brothers, and her parents, and we can guarantee the coffee is percolating, the tamales and pan dulce are warming, and her smile is beaming.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 21, 2026 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m.

Mass will be held on Tuesday September 22, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in the St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Ennis, Texas. Pallbearers will nephews David Fira, Ronnie Fira, Julian Fira, Payton Arciba, Travis Dixon, and Stevie Castillo.
