Evelyn Zmolik

December 20, 1943 – May 14, 2026

Evelyn Ann Gelnar Zmolik, 82, passed away in Ennis, Texas on Thursday, May 14, 2026.

Evelyn was born on December 20, 1943 to Frank and Carrie Gelnar in Mangum, Oklahoma. She grew up in Granite, Oklahoma and Ennis, Texas and attended St. John Catholic School. On August 4, 1962 she married the love of her life Benny Zmolik of 57 years.

Evelyn found her true calling in retail and poured her heart into H & H Gifts.  She loved connecting with her customers and enjoyed the countless friendships she built over the years.  She retired in 2014.  Throughout her life she was an active member of St John Nepomucene Catholic Church serving on the Alter Society. She also dedicated much of her time to curating and maintaining the flower arrangements and plants as well as the candle devotion. Her daily routine included daily mass and making sure the church looked beautiful and that the infant Jesus was wearing the correct colored vestment, going to visit and pray with her Honey Benny, enjoying quite time in the Adoration Chapel and of course there was always a need for an HEB and Walmart trip.  She cherished time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Everyone who knew her appreciated her for deep faith and devotion.

She is survived by her son, Bernie Zmolik and wife, Pamela; her daughters: Tricia Bacon and husband, Michael; Evette Vitovsky and husband, Bryan: grandchildren: Alisha Ruffin, Ryan and Jonathan Zmolik, and Whitney Ferguson, Donovon and Aniston Bacon, Aubrey Stephenson, Ashlyn Rodriguez, and Avery and Braydon Vitovsky.  She was also blessed with seventeen great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband Benny, and her parents.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2026 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 10 a.m. In St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis with Father John Dick as celebrant.  Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
