Floyd Allen "Jabo" Garrett, 99, passed away in Waxahachie, Texas on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

Floyd was born in Ennis, Texas on November 14, 1922, to Riley Allen and Mable (Richardson) Garrett, Sr. Floyd grew up in Ennis and attended Ennis Schools. On March 23, 1946, Floyd married Josephine Slovak and they lived on multiple Army bases in the United States and France. Floyd served his country with pride in the United States Army from 1943-1964, retiring as an SFC-E-6. He and Josephine moved back to Ennis after his retirement in 1964.

A highly decorated soldier, Floyd served for over twenty-one years in the United States Army, receiving the Philippines Liberation Ribbon, Japan Occupation Forces Medal, Bronze Star for Combat in Korea, two Bronze Battle Stars, and the UN Forces Service Medal (Korea). He served in France during World War II and helped organize Christmas Celebrations for less fortunate children in France. In addition, Floyd served for three years with the Corp of Engineers, seven years as a Staff Sergeant with the Ennis Police Department and, in his spare time, he refinished furniture for over fifteen years. Floyd was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church and the V.F.W. Floyd enjoyed playing bingo and poker. Family was the joy of Floyd's life.

Floyd is survived by his daughter, Anna Tanner; three granddaughters: Stacy Meyer, Maegan Tanner and Christina Garrett; one great-grandson, Kobe Hoggatt; sister, Jean Allison and a host of extended family and friends.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Josephine Garrett (2003), daughters: Wanda Garrett and Dodie Meyer, son, Allen Garrett and six siblings.

Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at 2 p.m. in J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis.
