Gene Bruce Tekell, Jr., well know by all at "Pops", 68, passed away in Dallas, Texas on Friday, April 18, 2025.

Gene was born in Ennis, Texas, on August 15, 1956, to Gene Bruce and Drexel (Dandridge) Tekell, Sr.  Gene grew up in Ennis, Texas and graduated from Ennis High School in 1974. Gene spent his entire working career in the grocery business first working for Tekell's Grocery, Kroger and Cox Grocery. Gene enjoyed spending time with family, gardening and traveling.

Gene is survived by his partner, Patty Larson; son Christopher M. Tekell and wife, Angela; grandchildren: Alexis Nicole Vest, Chris M. Tekell, Jr., Alyson, and Bentley J. Scott Tekell; step-daughters: Dianne Johnson, Michelle Larson and her partner, Nick Webber and Hannah Larson and her husband, Nick Hernandez and step-grandson, Jameson Hernandez.

Gene is preceded in death by his father Bruce Tekell and mother, Drexel Tekell along with his brother, Michael C. Tekell.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, beginning at 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, at 2 p.m. in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
