Hayman Howell Thomas, 87, of Palmer, Texas, went to be with his Lord and Savior at Ennis Care Center on January 11, 2021.

Hayman was born in Fife, Texas, on April 4, 1933, to Lonnie L. Thomas and Mary Ethel Davenport Thomas. He graduated from Olden High School. On December 2, 1962, he married the love of his life Wilma L. Elliott in Olden, Texas. They made their home in Dallas first, then Mesquite before moving to Palmer in 1976.

He served in the Army from 1953-1955. He then began working for Lone Star Gas Company as a greeter to customers. He transferred to Lone Star Energy Company and became a supervisor until his retirement. He worked 35 years at Lone Star. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Palmer and served as treasurer for several years.

He is survived by daughters: Teel Witt of Palmer; Susan Schmidt & husband, Jason of Palmer; grandchildren: James Allen, Jr. of Waxahachie; Shawn Witt & wife, Yvonne of Caddo Mills; Jeffery Allen & wife, Brittany of Kailua, HI; Kathryn (Katie) Allen of Bardwell; Jenna Schmidt and Conner Schmidt of Palmer; great-grandchildren: Alexxay Ruiz-Witt, Samuel Allen and Ella Allen; sisters: Joyce Walker of Crockett and June Sledge of Refugio; brothers: Homer Thomas & wife, Bobbie of Georgetown and Don "Howdy" Thomas of Hammon, OK; several nieces and nephews and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Lonnie and Ethel Thomas; his wife of 55 years, Wilma; son-in-law, David Witt; two brothers, Roger and Lee Thomas; and two sisters, Linda Thomas and LaVern Thomas Godden.

Visitation will be Sunday, January 17, 2021, 6-8 pm; funeral will Monday, January 18, 2021, 2pm at JE Keever Funeral Home Palmer Chapel with Bro. Jerry Fulton officiating. Interment will follow at Palmer Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jason Schmidt, Jenna Schmidt, Conner Schmidt, James Allen, Jr., Shawn Witt, and Katie Allen.
