James Joe Slovacek of Winona, Texas passed away at age of 79. James was born to John J. Slovacek and Stacy (Hrbacek) Slovacek in Alma, Texas on July 8, 1941. He graduated from Ennis High School class of 1959. He served in the Texas Air National Guard in Grand Prairie, Texas. Living in Dallas, he worked for the Army Commissary in the immediate area and in Japan. After returning from Japan, he was employed by FasTax as a printer operator. In his later years, James worked for Calloway's Nursery delivering plants in the greater Dallas area. James never forgot his roots, he continued to work the family farm in Alma, Texas in his spare time. His big challenge was to keep the vintage tractors running. After the farm was sold, he retired to a small independent living complex in Winona, Texas; where his new challenge was to try to fix anything broken in the complex.

James is survived by his sister Dorothy (Slovacek) Jurik, brother Raymond  J. Slovacek and his wife (Yvonne) of Dallas, TX; nephew: Darius Slovacek of Louisville, CO. Nieces: Deborah (Slovacek) Flink of Richardson, TX; DeAnna (Slovacek) Lemmer of Paint Lick, KY; Jayme Jurik, Kristine Jurik and LeAnn Jurik.

Graveside services will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery of Ennis, Texas at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, 2020 with Father John Dick as Celebrant under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
