Jeanette (Walker) Stevens was born on October 19, 1937 in Athens, Texas. She passed away peacefully on January 6, 2024 at San Remo Skilled Nursing facility in Richardson, Texas after a decline in her health. She was 86 years young.

Jeanette graduated from Athens High School in 1956. Soon after, she graduated from Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches. She married Rutherford H. "Steve" Stevens, Jr., and in 1961 they moved to Ennis where she began teaching at Ennis High School. They were life-long and dedicated members of Tabernacle Baptist Church. Jeanette took a break from teaching to raise her two sons but returned to teach at St. John's Catholic High School in Ennis. She is fondly regarded by the many students she taught over the years. Jeanette lived the remainder of her life in Ennis but stayed closely connected to her hometown of Athens.

Jeanette enjoyed life in the form of Sunday afternoon car rides, dancing with her husband, family vacations, and spirited holidays. She adored movies and the beautiful stars who made them. Later in life it was her love of traveling with friends, shopping in Dallas, live theater, playing bridge, and working in her yard that kept her active. She was a social being and never ceased to enjoy meeting new people. As of late, she was comforted by the old Westerns of television that she watched as a child with her grandparents, the flavorful foods of East Texas that she loved all throughout her life, and recounting family memories that led her to laughter and tears.

Jeanette is survived by her son Todd Stevens with Dr. Jerry Spicer, son Tony Stevens with Kristin (Berry) Stevens, granddaughters Berry Grace Stevens and Charleigh Anne Stevens. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Gracie Keller, Sue Johnson, Lois Nat, and many cousins including Michael Crow with Freda Crow, nieces, and nephews.

She was predeceased in death by her husband "Steve" Stevens in 2011 after 49 years of marriage, sister Faye Jackson, father Maurice Walker, mother Grace Walker.

Her unwavering faith in God and positive outlook carried her gracefully though a life well lived. Jeanette possessed a soul filled with kindness, great love for her family, and a high regard for the value of friendship. It is with God that she is beside her beloved husband Steve.

A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, January 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of J.E. Keever Mortuary, 408 N Dallas St., Ennis, Texas 75119. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m., at Athens City Cemetery, 400 Prairieville St., Athens, Texas, 75751.
