Jerry Maurice Smith, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2024, in Dallas, Texas, after a brief battle with leukemia. He was 81 years old.

Born on January 20, 1943, in Ennis to Maurice and Norma (Willis) Smith, Jerry was the second of three children in the Smith household. Known for his warm heart, steadfast nature, and unwavering dedication to his family, Jerry joined Texas Power & Light in 1961 just days after graduating high school. He began his career as a meter reader and lineman before advancing into management roles with TP&L, Texas Utilities, and Kit Carson Electric. Over his 55-year career, Jerry made significant contributions to the energy industry in North Texas and Northern New Mexico.

After retiring, Jerry took great joy in his woodworking and welding projects, visiting National  Parks for ATV excursions, and spending quality time with family and friends. A lifelong sports fan, he was always ready to share his opinions on the Dallas Cowboys or enjoy a trip to the NHRA races.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Kaylyn Christian Venable; his brother, Michael Smith; his children, Lisa Guest and her husband Lanny, Suzy Smith and her wife Jennifer, and Margaret Smith; and his beloved stepchildren, Patrick Venable, Jason Venable, and Raymie Venable Carthey, along with 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jean Smith Denny, and stepson Mike Venable.

A memorial service to honor Jerry's life will be held on Friday, September 20, 2024, at 10:00AM, at First Methodist Church of Ennis . All who knew him are welcome to attend and celebrate his remarkable life.

Jerry Maurice Smith will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Building Maintenance Fund in honor of Jerry Smith at First Methodist Church of Ennis .
