Jesse Don Greer was born on January 23rd, 1949, to Bud and Thelma Greer in Corsicana, Texas. He slipped out of this life on Wednesday, October 28th, 2026, and walked into the light of the presence of Jesus, breathing easily in the air of the Kingdom of Heaven.
Don grew up in and around Corsicana and Rice, Texas, especially enjoying his time as a boy in a house on Fortson Ranch watching cattle drives with his dad. After losing his father when he was 11 years old, Don began his career in the grocery business at 14 years old at Fullerton’s Grocery Store. He would continue his time in the grocery profession for the next 43 years, working many of those years in management, often earning recognition from his peers (we see you, Mr. Aggressive Hospitality!). Don finally left the grocery business in 2006 and finished his career outside of the home with the Dallas County Courtesy Patrol. After his retirement from Dallas County, where he spent 5 years, he—appropriately—began working with the love of his life, Carolyn, caring for children in their home.
Don and Carolyn met when he was 20 years old while he was driving down “the strip” in Corsicana with his partner-in-crime, best friend, and favorite cousin, George Spann. That meeting changed the trajectory of his life. Carolyn looked past the fact that Don and George were both a little tipsy and a little bloodied up from a fist fight (with each other!). Don and Carolyn were seldom apart after that. They married each other on June 12th, 1971. Their marriage produced three daughters, Christy, Courtney, and Jessica—who were the pride of his life. His daughters brought him his greatest joy—his grandchildren: Jenna, Cameron, Eli, Knox, and Marlowe. Don relished his role as Pop to his grandkids who he loved to spoil.
Don’s passions included sports (he always knew the score!), collecting watches, and collecting new technology. He felt very strongly about contributing to childhood cancer research, donating to St. Jude’s Hospital for over 30 years (his love for St. Jude’s influenced his granddaughter being named Marlowe, after Marlo Thomas of St. Jude’s). His true obsession was music. His tastes spanned from the Beatles to Motown to praise and worship music to his very favorite—classic country. He and Carolyn were able to see many of their favorite artists in concert, often meeting them after shows.
Don’s love for all these things paled in comparison to his love for Jesus and for his wife. His faith was shown in a quiet way, but his devotion after his profession of faith in 1976 never wavered—even during his illness. Don was unbelievable committed to Carolyn—and the commitment was undeniably reciprocated (as made evident by her refusal to leave his bedside, even for a night, over the past 3 ½ months of illness). Their more than 55 years of marriage is a testament to the strength of their love.
Don is preceded in death by his mother, father, two sisters, and his cousin, George. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; his daughter, Christy Broumley and her husband, Leslie Broumely, of Rice, Texas; his daughter, Courtney Greer-Rolaff and her wife, Christine Greer-Rolaff, of Rowlett, Texas; his daughter, Jessica Worsham, of McKinney, Texas; and his grandchildren, Jenna Honeycutt and her husband, Jermi Honeycutt; Cameron Broumley; Eli Marchbanks; Knox Worsham; and Marlowe Greer-Rolaff.
Services will be held at J.E. Keever Mortuary in Ennis, Texas. Visitation will be held on Monday, November 2nd, 2026 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. The funeral will be on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2026 at 10 a.m. There will be no graveside service.
We will miss him forever in this life but live with the assurance of seeing him again in the next. As Scripture promises in Revelation 21:4, “And He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.”
