Obituary

Jesse Diaz Herrera, 74, of Ennis, Texas, passed away on Thursday, December 31, 2020.  He was born in Charco Blanco Villa de Cos, Mexico, to father Ernesto Herrera and mother Maria Herrera.  One of nine children, Jesse was preceded in death by his parents and by his sister Juana Manuela Yrlas and brother Benny Herrera.  He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Maria Olga Herrera; his children Joel Herrera, Joana Zambrano, and Jonathan Herrera (daughter-in-law Ola Herrera); their shared children Gisela Almanza (son-in-law Robert Almanza), Silene Araujo, and Nigel Marin; his grandchildren Jacob Zambrano, Seth Zambrano, Luke Zambrano, Pagiel Herrera, Ethan Herrera, Ammi Herrera, Chalice Herrera, Evangeline Herrera, Vanessa Crow (grandson-in-law Casey Crow), Amanda Almanza, Rebeca Almanza, Gracie Marin, Ryder Marin, and Nigel Marin, Jr.; his brothers Johnny Herrera and Joe Herrera; his sisters Juana Rosa Torrez, Mary Cruz Vega, Mary Garcia, Alice Bernal, and Mona Loera; and countless extended family and friends.  All held him in the highest regard and loved him dearly.

Jesse Diaz Herrera was a veteran of the United States Army, having served in the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1970.  He was a combat engineer with HHC ENG BN USARPAC attached to the 101st Airborne Division and was stationed in Vietnam for a year.  He exited the Army under honorable conditions and brought great credit upon himself, the 101st Airborne Division, the United States Army, and the United States of America.  He received a Bronze Star, a National Defense Service Medal, and a Vietnam Service Medal.
Not only was Jesse a specialist in the United States Army and an American hero, he also held such a special place in so many hearts and was a hero to his family and friends.  He was an extremely helpful and effortlessly charming man who enjoyed spending time with his loved ones, sharing stories, talking about the Lord, and filling his home with laughter.  He was a proud grandfather and cherished all of his grandchildren.  He delighted in spending time with his wife (whom he called his "Olgita"), taking road trips, drinking coffee, and going on walks together.  Jesse Herrera will be honored and remembered as a hard-working, kind, witty, and wise man and will be missed very much by those whose lives he touched.
A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 8, 2021, at J.E. Keever Mortuary, 408 North Dallas Street, Ennis, Texas 75119 .  Burial with Military Honors will follow at a later date.  Services are under the direction of J. E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
Due to current COVID19 restrictions, face masks are required in the funeral home.  If you do not feel well, it is recommended that you stay home.
