On the day of April 29, 2022, Jimmie T. Oates went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Palmer, Texas, 200 S. Sherman Street , on Wednesday, May 4, 2022. Visiting Hour will be from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Funeral Services will begin at 2 p.m. A Graveside Service will follow in Myrtle Cemetery, under the direction of J. E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

Jimmie went to school in Palmer, Texas where he graduated in 1953. He worked for his Uncle Jack at his tire and fuel station. He also worked for Ford Manufacturing Plant (Ford Motor Assembly Plant) for a short time, when he was laid off.  Uncle Sam drafted him in 1956 where he served in the Army Artillery Division until 1962.

Jimmie worked for Ennis Business Forms as an Apprentice Press Operator, Safeway Grocery Store part-time and drove a wrecker for Johnny Slocam part-time.

He was offered a position in Dallas at Steck Warlick as a 2 ^nd Pressman where he printed various magazines and brochures. The printing company sold out to Lehigh Press and moved to Carrollton, Texas where Jimmie transferred and began to print the little TV Guide book that all of us loved to read!

When Jimmie retired from 37 years of printing at age 62, he began working part-time for Price Distributing here in Ennis where he worked for 10 plus more years.

Jimmie was a hard-working man, loving father and husband and loved to travel to various parts of the country with his wife, Betty.

He was a Youth Leader at the First United Methodist Church in Ennis, Texas for a short time. He also loved to volunteer to usher at Sunday morning services where he could meet and greet the parish members as they entered the church for worship service. He participated on the Parent Board for Boy Scouts Troop #210 at the church as well.

Jimmie was a social bug. His personality was a magnet. He loved to mingle and he never met a stranger. He could tell his life story and witness to people with no hesitation. His life was a great testimony in itself on how to treat other people with the respect they deserve.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Monroe and Polly (Baker) Oates, sister Betty Tims, step-daughter Pam Hammons, step-son Randy McCoy and step-grandson Tommy McCoy II.

Jimmie is survived by his wife, Betty Oates of Ennis, Texas; Son, Kevin Oates and his spouse, Connie of Ennis; Daughter Vickie Nixon, and her spouse David of Frisco, Texas; Step-son Robert McCoy of Waxahachie and Step-son Tommy McCoy of Kaufman, Texas; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; Brother Billy Oates of Palmer, Texas and Brother Gary Oates of Fairfield, Texas.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Palmer .
