Jimmy Valson Boon, 88, passed away in Dallas, Texas, on Monday, June 24, 2024.

He was born in Boyce, Texas on February 4, 1936 to Hazel Cox and Ernest H Boon the fourth of 10 children.

He graduated from Ennis High School in 1954. After high school he went to work for Ennis Tag and Salesbook Company. In 1956 he married Virginia "Ginger" Crow. They made their home in Ennis, Texas. In 1957 Jimmy joined the 49th Armored Division of the National Guard in Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. In 1961 his unit was activated during the Berlin Wall crisis and served 11 months in Ft. Polk, Louisiana.

When he came out of active service, W.R. "Bill" Schween, President of American Carbon of Ennis, Texas offered him a career in sales. This is where he found his gift. He went in business for himself as a business forms dealer. In 1968 he and his brother-in-law Ted Crow formed Data Business Forms in Dallas, Texas. After Ted retired Jimmy bought the business and the business form dealership is still in operation today.

Bill Schween was a mentor to Jimmy in business, church and civic organizations. Jimmy loved the Methodist Church, served in every committee in the Methodist Church, and felt he was born to be a Methodist. His grandmother and mother were Methodist, and he married a Methodist. He loved the Methodist Church.

He was chairman of Ennis Zoning Board for 30 years, president of Lakeside Country Club and Ennis Band boosters and founder of First National Bank of Ennis in 1986. Upon retirement he joined Ennis Rotary Club and became chairman of the flag program, which has grown to over 1600 flags. Jimmy loved the city of Ennis. Jimmy also served as a valued member of the Myrtle Cemetery Board.

Education became very important to Jimmy and he regretted not having a college education every day of his business life. He saw that his children and grandchildren received a college degree and he contributed to their education fund to the present day.

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Ginger. His daughters Deanna Keever and husband Robby, Nancy Hancock and Becky Gournay and husband Matt. His five grandchildren Kyle Keever and Fiance' Kelsey Bonds, Hallie and Haven Hancock, Riley and Bryce Gournay. His proudest title was being called Deda by his grandchildren. Also, survived by siblings Iris Ball, Marilyn Linsteadt, Alvis Boon, Janis Dalley and Susan Schwartz; sister-in-laws: Gloria Boon and Melinda Boon.

Preceded in death by his parents, siblings Hazel Tidwell, Ivan Boon, Linda Sullivan and Ernest Kyle Boon.

A Celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, June 27, 2024, at 11 a.m. in the First Methodist Church of Ennis with Dr. Larry Jinks officiating. Interment will follow in Myrtle Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to First Methodist Church of Ennis.
