JoAnn Valek, 91, passed away in Ennis, Texas, on Sunday, September 29, 2024.

JoAnn was born in Ennis, Texas, on November 20, 1932, to Jess and Agnes (Zajic) Lekar. JoAnn grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1950. JoAnn married Louis J. Valek on January 11, 1951, and they made their home in Ennis.

JoAnn raised her children and worked as a substitute teacher for both St. John School and Ennis ISD. She then worked for over thirty-five years as office manager with her family at Valek Auto Body Repair. JoAnn was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis and KJZT #25. JoAnn loved spending time with her family and sewing. Most days you could find her cooking at the shop for the family business. She loved making birthday cakes for her family and friends; if it was your birthday, she always tried to make sure you felt special with one of her homemade cakes.

JoAnn is survived by her sons: Donald Valek and wife, Susan, Michael Valek and wife, Vickie and Thomas Valek and wife, Glenda; daughter, Sharon Goodwin and husband, Bill; eleven grandchildren: Blake Goodwin and fiancé, Angie O'Rourke, Scott Goodwin and wife, Kimberly, Jerry Valek, Jason Valek, Jennifer Rucks and husband, Ben, Melissa Hamlin and husband, Tom, Lezlie Valek, Jeremy Metcalfe and wife, Tiffany, Elizabeth Henning and husband, Jordon, Jami Sneed and husband, Mark, Elliott Valek and wife, Brooke; seventeen great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.

JoAnn is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Louis Valek on February 20, 2008, her brother, Gene Lekar, sister, Betty Rogala and daughter-in-law, Cindy Valek.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with Rosary at 7 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

Mass of the Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 10 a.m. in St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church of Ennis with Father John Dick as celebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
