It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Dea Mounts, 80, who passed away on October 28, 2025. John Dea was born on October 3, 1945, in Ennis, Texas, to the late Herman S. and Margaret Mounts. He lived a full and hardworking life, deeply connected to family and friendship.

John Dea proudly served his country as a member of the National Guard, where he exemplified dedication, discipline, and honor. Following his military service, he built a long and respected career with the Southern Pacific Railroad, where he was known for his strong work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to excellence. He dedicated himself fully to this career as an engineer.

Beyond work and service, John Dea was a lifetime member of the American Legion and an avid hunter and fisherman, finding peace and purpose in the outdoors. He could always be found working on a project, fixing something, or tending to his yard. A small but memorable reflection of his pride and personality, John Dea was known for marking his possessions with "JDM" so everyone would know who they belonged to.

John Dea shared his life with his best friend and wife, Rosemary Mounts, and loved his feline companions. Though he was a strong and steadfast man, his devotion and care for Rosemary and his family spoke volumes about his heart.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rosemary Mounts, and their combined children: Shawn Mounts and wife Kimberly, Julie Mounts Moreno; stepchildren Yvonne Taylor, Romeo Saenz and wife Ginger, Randy Saenz and wife Connie, Camille Summers and husband Daniel, Rodrick Saenz and wife Kari, and Susan Vasquez and husband Chris; and his grandchildren Madison and Aric Mounts, Mikaela Smith, Evan Moreno, Whitley Lowe, Matthew Taylor, Reed and Lily Saenz, Ryan, Brandon, and Cameron Saenz, Harris and Adam King, Presley, Jake, and Scarlett Saenz, and Hunter, Noah, and Krista Vasquez, as well as many beloved great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman S. and Margaret Mounts, and his son-in-law, Michael Moreno.

John Dea will be remembered for his strength, humor, and the way he quietly cared for those he loved — a man whose mark, much like his initials, will always remain.

GRAVESIDE SERVICE will be held Friday, November 14, 2025 at 11 a.m. in Myrtle Cemetery, Ennis, under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in John Dea's honor.
