Johnny Monroe Davis, better known as Sonny, woke up in the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, December 9, 2020.

Sonny was born March 16, 1941 in Waxahachie, Texas to James Dillard Davis and Mildred Allene (Green) Davis.  The family moved to Ennis, Texas where Sonny attended high school.  He married his childhood love, Gloria Vashti Pritchett on July 29, 1964 and made their home in Ennis.  Sonny gave his life to Christ at the age of 12 and was baptized in Tabernacle Church on April 27, 1952.

Sonny joined the US Navy in 1961 and was proud to be a veteran.  He served as Commander of the Ennis American Legion.

In his life he worked as an Ennis fireman.  He found his true calling as a salesman for Perry-Hercules Co. where he was their top salesman.  After leaving this company he started his own delivery company JMD Transport for several years.  He retired and worked part-time for Frank Kent driving cars.

Sonny is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 56 years, Gloria Davis, brother, James Robert "Buddy" Davis and his precious dog, Molly.

He is survived by his daughter, Gloria "Lucy" King and husband, Clint Allen King; son, Orville Leonard "Len" Cranford and wife, Kathy and daughter, Deborah Kay "Debbie" Tharp and husband Charlie Tharp; sisters: Deanna Erikson and husband, Alfred, Teresa Gerich and husband, Edward; and Saberina Turner and husband, Michael; brother, Billy Joe Davis and wife, Francie; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sonny's sense of humor and storytelling of the old days will be greatly missed.  He was deeply loved and he loved deeply.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 13, 2020 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 14, 2020 at 10 a.m. in Myrtle Cemetery with Nathan Grant officiating under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
