Laura Illene Russell, 56, of Ennis, Texas, was called to her eternal home on Saturday, September 27, 2025. Born on January 20, 1969, in Dallas to Lequitia "Ruthy" Tharp and Lambeth Russell, Laura lived a life dedicated to selfless service and boundless compassion.

For the past 27 years, Laura proudly served as a 911 dispatcher for the City of Wilmer's police department, where her calm voice and quick thinking provided comfort and aid to countless individuals in their moments of need. At the time of her passing, she was also extending her dedication to the City of Ferris in the same vital role, and she had previously contributed her skills to the City of Seagoville. Laura's commitment to public safety was more than a career—it was a calling; reflecting her unwavering desire to protect and uplift the communities she loved.

Her journey on this Earth was one of profound warmth and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on her family, friends, co-workers, and all who knew her. She approached life with a heart full of love, a spirit of empathy, and a tireless drive to make a difference. Though her passing has created a profound void, her legacy of compassion and service will continue to inspire those she touched.

Laura enjoyed playing games on her phone, diamond dots, and her cats.

Laura is preceded in death by her husband, Michael Wesley Atwell, whose memory she cherished deeply.

Laura is survived by her beloved sons, Kevin and Kalab; her sister, Vandal; and her nephews, Troy and Roy. In honoring her memory, may we all strive to serve others with the same grace and devotion that defined her remarkable life.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, from noon until 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

A Celebration of Laura's life will be held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis with Rev. Victor Kemp officiating.
