Linda Jean Callaway Gillespie passed away Sunday morning, August 4, 2024, in her home with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer for the past three years.

She was born July 22, 1949, in Corsicana, Texas, to Earl and Ona (Puckett) Callaway and was raised on a farm near Chatfield. She attended school in Rice and Ennis, graduating from Ennis High School in 1967.

Linda worked at Ennis Business Forms and Ennis Transportation for several years. She then worked continuously for the next 33 years for U.S. Congressman Joe Barton as Deputy Chief of Staff in Ennis and Washington D.C. She retired in 2018. Linda had a strong work ethic and always took her responsibilities very seriously.

Linda was an active member of the First Methodist Church of Ennis and a member of the Lord's Ladies SS Class. Linda enjoyed traveling with her sister and friends in later years. Most of all she loved being Nana to her grandchildren, great-nephews, and great-nieces. She will be especially remembered for her love of chocolate desserts.

Survivors include son Bill Gillespie of Ennis, daughter Julie and son-in-law Dr. Walter Walthall of San Antonio, TX, grandson Adam Gillespie of Ennis, granddaughters Autumn Gillespie of El Paso, TX, and Abigail and Grace Walthall of San Antonio, TX, and sister Earline Reese of Ennis.

Linda is also survived by her longtime companion Dan Morton and his family of Waxahachie, TX. She leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends. She is preceded in death by her parents Earl and Ona Callaway, brothers Olon Callaway and Howard Callaway, and nephews Buster Callaway and Lynn Callaway.

Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Gillespie, Jeffrey Svehlak, Justin Svehlak, Devon Cady, Chad Spence, and Dan Morton, Jr.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, August 8, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at J.E. Keever Mortuary. Services will be held Friday, August 9 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Methodist Church with interment to follow at Rice Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

Memorials may be made to the First Methodist Church in Ennis .
