On Friday, May 16, 2025, Marva Lynn High passed away after a long and courageous battle with heart disease. She faced her illness with strength and grace for many years, but ultimately, her heart could no longer carry the weight.
Marva was born on February 23, 1953, in Dallas, Texas, to Loyd Pat and Dixie Ray Doss. She was raised in Lancaster, Texas, where she attended and graduated from Lancaster High School. It was there that she met the love of her life, Robert Lee High Sr. The two were married on October 25, 1972, and began their life together in Lancaster before moving to Chatfield, Texas, in 1993, where they built a loving home and strong community roots.
Marva and Robert raised seven children together, though countless others came to know her as "Mom" or "Nana." Her warmth and love extended far beyond her immediate family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Loyd and Dixie Doss; her brothers, Kenneth and Shane Doss; and her sisters, Ramona Doss and Tira Coleman.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 52 years, Robert High Sr.; her sisters, Reba Sturles, Carla Paine, and Lara Baleno; and her children: Tray Skrivanek and husband Garry, Donna Hickson and husband Jason, Shanna Wood, Robert High Jr. (B.J.) and wife Cassandra, Chad High and wife Kassi, Fred High, and Angel Youngblood and husband Andrew.
Marva was a proud and devoted grandmother to Johnathen, Marissa, and Dalton Skrivanek; Trey Davis; Sanmera High; Blake Hickson; Jeremy Grant; Madison, William (Billy), and Nickolas Wood; Faith Emerson and husband Jerry; Syvanna High; Skyla High; Robert High III; Charlee High; Winter High; Kateri High; Honey Robinson; Ava High; Rayce High; Kasen High; Ace (A.K.) High; Bryce Youngblood, Rhydier Youngblood, Britt'Leigh Youngblood; and 16 beloved great-grandchildren.
Marva found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially outdoors. She cherished days at the lake, fishing, gardening, and soaking up the sun. She also had a love for reading and crossword puzzles, always sharpening her mind with quiet determination.
Marva's greatest pride was her family. Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched with her kindness, strength, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at J.E. Keever Mortuary in Ennis, Texas.
A Celebration of Marva's Life will take place on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel, with William Russell Wood Sr. officiating. Following the service, Marva will be laid to rest at the family cemetery in Chatfield, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
Serving as pallbearers will be Robert Lee High Jr., Chadwick Allen High, Fredrick River High, Trey Miller Davis, Johnathen Scott Skrivanek, and William Russell Wood Jr.
Marva's presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her memory will be cherished always.
