Mary L. McCallister passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 3rd, surrounded by her family, after a brief illness. She was born on April 5, 1948, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, to Louis McCallister and Juanita Emmert. Mary graduated from high school in Ennis in 1966 and worked various jobs throughout the years to help support her family. Later in life, she proudly returned to school and earned an Associate's degree in accounting. She eventually retired from AT&T.

Mary's greatest joy was her grandchildren. She loved sitting on her porch, watching her hummingbirds and any other birds that visited her feeders. She also had a special fondness for ladybugs. An avid fan of horror books and movies, she especially enjoyed the classic Hammer films and anything vampire-related. Her favorite authors included Stephen King and Dean Koontz, and she loved reading Archie Comics Digest. One of her favorite movies was Drumline. Mary also enjoyed solving Sudoku puzzles in her free time. She was a devoted Elvis fan and had a deep appreciation for George Jones. Whether it was enjoying an ice-cold Pepsi or a warm cup of coffee, she found pleasure in the simple things. Above all, she had a special love for her fur babies and never hesitated to care for any stray animals she encountered.

Mary is survived by her two children, Holly and Erik; her grandchildren, Jacob and Emily; her siblings, Jerry, David, Carole, and Linda; niece Kristie and nephews Michael and Gerald,  and a dear friend, Kathy Miller.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Albert Glen. She will be missed by everyone who knew her.

The family will hold a private memorial at a later date.
