Michael Ernest Reel, 78, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026 in Waxahachie, Texas, after a lingering illness.

Michael was born in Ennis, Texas, on November 23,1947, to Ernest Alton and Mildred Frances (Roberts) Reel. Michael grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1966. He went on to earn his Master's degree in Education from North Texas State University in 1976. Michael married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Barkley, on December 20, 1969. They eventually made Ennis their home as they raised their two daughters Virginia and Elizabeth.

For nearly 30 years, Michael touched countless lives as a high school mathematics teacher for Lewisville, Ennis, and Ferris high schools. In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and had the remarkable ability to repair, modify, create almost anything. However, Michael is most known for this fierce love and commitment to taking care of his wife, his family, and those he considered family.

Michael is survived by Patricia, his beloved wife of over 56 year. His daughters, Virginia Davis and Elizabeth Ewing. HIs grandchildren Samuel and Sara Davis. His brother Biff Reel; his sister Birdessa Spidle; his sister in law Barbara Barkley; their families, and a host of extended family and friends.

Michael's death is preceded by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. at J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel in Ennis.
