Nancy Lea Pollan Dodson, 78, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 16, 2023.

Nancy was born in Ennis, Texas, on July 11, 1945. Nancy grew up on a farm between Rice and Ennis. She graduated from Ennis High School in 1963 where she was a cheerleader and active in numerous clubs and organizations.

Nancy attended Texas Tech University 1963-1965 where she was a member of the Alpha Ci Omega social sorority. In 1965 she transferred to Baylor Dental Hygiene School at Caruth College of Dental Hygiene in Dallas, Texas where she graduated in 1967. She then completed her Bachelor of Science from Baylor in 1967. Nancy was the first hygienist to travel to Honduras to assist dentists in treating dental needy patients. Being the first hygienist to go to Honduras opened the door for other hygienists to follow in her footsteps.

Nancy practiced as a dental hygienist for 55 years in Dallas, Abilene, Ennis, and Corsicana. At the time of her retirement, she and her husband, Bill Dodson, took an Alaskan Cruise.

Living in Ennis since 1970, she has raised her three children in the town where she grew up. She was a member of the First Methodist Church, the Delphi Book Club, and Sinne'. She was on the board of Ennis Public Theatre. Nancy was a proud and active member of her city. Nancy enjoyed traveling domestically and internationally. She took delight in her yard with the beautiful flowers and Koi Pond. In the last few years, she had become an talented quilter. Those who were gifted with one of her quilts were blessed. She also enjoyed games (she was very competitive) and puzzles. Nan was accomplished in needlepoint.

Nancy is survived by her loving and caring husband, Billy Andrew Dodson of Ennis. They had been married for 27 years.

She is also survived by her three children and four grandchildren: Clint Marshall Barton and wife, Karin of Seattle, Washington, Derek Spencer Barton and wife, Meredith of Ennis, Courtney Page Barton of Ennis; grandchildren: Robert (Robby) Barton and Nykia Barton of Seattle Washington and, Riley Barton and Madison Barton of Ennis.

Nancy leaves behind a loving brother, WD (Dub) Pollan and wife, Nell of League City, Texas; her devoted sister, Janey Pollan Burke of Roscoe, Texas and her beloved cousin, Polly Pollan Starr and husband, Dr. Jim Starr of Ferris. Also, left behind are numerous supportive and loving friends and loyal dental patients.

Nancy is preceded in death by her parents Horace G. Pollan and Macie Ann Page Pollan.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the First Methodist Church of Ennis where she has been a member since childhood.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 22, 2023, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis.

A Celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 10 a.m. in the First Methodist Church of Ennis with Dr. Larry Jinks officiating under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
