Ophelia Álvarez Diaz , age 63, passed away on April 20th 2024 surrounded by her loved ones in Waxahachie, Tx. She was born on November 3rd,1960 in Ennis, Tx to Anselmo and Baudelia (Peña) Alvarez.

On September 16th,1976, Ophelia was crowned the last Miss Ennis Texas, in her town. She went on to marry the love of her life, Jose Gerardo Diaz on March 28th, 1984. Together they enjoyed 40 years of marriage and during that time made their home in Corsicana, Tx.

She dedicated 10 years to the CVS Distribution Center in Ennis Tx, where she later retired. Ophelia was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother. When she wasn't spending time with her grandkids and family, she could be found playing bingo, cooking & baking, going on road trips to the casinos, and listening to music. Not a day went by where Ophelia did not talk about how much her children and family meant to her.

She is survived by her loving husband Jose Gerardo Diaz, two sons and daughter-in-law: Brian & Georgia Gonzales and Edward Ray Diaz; Twenty grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart; siblings Inez Fira, Dominga Lopez, Mary F. Alvarez, Johnny Alvarez, Felix Alvarez, Gonzalo Alvarez, Mary D. Alvarez, Virginia  Aguilar, and Alma Sandoval; numerous nieces and nephews, along with a host of extended family and friends.

Ophelia is preceded in death by her parents, Ancelmo & Baudelia(Peña) Alvarez, sons, Isaac, Christopher, & Vincent Diaz. Grandchildren Viviana Diaz & Jesus Gonzales. Siblings Jesse Alvarez, Antonio Alvarez, Pablo Alvarez, Blasita Salazar, Mary L. Alvarez, & Isabel Olalde.

Pallbearers will be: Brian Gonzales, Edward Ray Diaz, Isaac Gonzales, Christopher Gonzales, Andrew Gonzales, Ralph Lopez, Edward Ray Diaz Jr. and Vincent Ray Diaz. Honorary pallbearers will be: Emiliano Gerardo Diaz and Brian Gonzales Jr.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the J. E. Keever Mortuary Chapel, 408 N. Dallas St., Ennis, Texas. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Mass will be celebrated Friday, April 26, 2024 at 10 a.m. at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Ennis. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery under the direction of J. E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.

El 16 de Septiembre de 1976, Ophelia fue coronada como la última Miss Ennis Texas, en su pueblo. Luego se casó con el amor de su vida, José Gerardo Díaz, el 28 de Marzo de 1984. Juntos disfrutaron de 40 años de matrimonio y durante ese tiempo establecieron su hogar en Corsicana, Tx.

Dedicó 10 años al Centro de Distribución CVS en Ennis Tx, donde luego se jubiló. Ophelia fue una esposa, madre y abuela maravillosa. Cuando no pasaba tiempo con sus nietos y su familia, se la podía encontrar jugando el bingo, cocinando y horneando, haciendo viajes por carretera a los casinos y escuchando música. No pasaba un día en el que Ophelia no hablara de lo mucho que significaban para ella sus hijos y su familia.

Le sobreviven su amado esposo José Gerardo Díaz, dos hijos y su nuera: Brian y Georgia Gonzales y Edward Ray Díaz; Veinte nietos, a quienes amaba con todo su corazón; hermanos Inez Fira, Dominga López, Mary F. Alvarez, Johnny Alvarez, Félix Alvarez, Gonzalo Alvarez, Mary D. Alvarez, Virginia Aguilar y Alma Sandoval; numerosas sobrinas y sobrinos, junto con una gran cantidad de familiares y amigos.

A Ophelia le precedieron en la muerte sus padres, Ancelmo y Baudelia (Peña) Álvarez, sus hijos, Isaac, Christopher y Vincent Diaz. Nietos Viviana Díaz y Jesús Gonzales. Hermanos Jesse Álvarez, Antonio Álvarez, Pablo Álvarez, Blasita Salazar, Mary L. Álvarez e Isabel Olalde.

Los portadores del féretro serán Brian Gonzales, Edward Ray Diaz, Isaac Gonzales, Christopher Gonzales, Andrew Gonzales, Ralph Lopez, Edward Ray Diaz Jr. y Vincent Ray Diaz. Los portadores honorarios del féretro serán Emiliano Gerardo Díaz y Brian Gonzales Jr.

El velorio será el jueves 25 de abril de 2024 de 6 p.m. hasta las 8 p.m. con Rosario a las 7 p.m. en la Capilla J. E. Keever, 408 N. Dallas Street, Ennis, Texas.

La misa del entierro cristiano se llevará a cabo a las 10 am el viernes 26 de abril de 2024 en la iglesia católica St. John Nepomucene en Ennis.

El entierro será en el cementerio St. Joseph bajo la dirección de J. E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
