Pauline Kovar Chmelar

(July 15, 1928 – July 14, 2022)

Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Pauline Kovar Chmelar, passed away one day before her 94th birthday on Thursday, July 14, 2022. With gratitude, love and faith, Pauline's children held her hands as she passed peacefully to her heavenly home.

Pauline was born in Houston, Texas on July 15, 1928 to John and Karolina Elsik Kovar. After the death of her mother when Pauline was four years of age, she came to live with her aunt and uncle, Albina Elsik Luksa and Joe Luksa of Ennis. She was baptized in the Czech Moravian Brethren Church, Ennis in 1933 and later became a member of First Presbyterian Church, Ennis. She graduated from Ennis High School in 1945. On June 1, 1947 she married Charles E. Chmelar of Crisp. They made their home in Ennis.

Pauline was a library assistant for Austin Elementary School at Ennis ISD for 19 years until she retired in 1994. In her younger years, Pauline enjoyed the outdoors, flower gardening, preparing delicious meals, and sewing. She embraced a love for reading and learning that lasted all her days. Her most important endeavor was always caring for her family. She will be missed dearly and will always remain an inspiration for her children and grandchildren.

She is survived by two daughters, Margaret and her husband Milton Gurecky of Lewisville and Janice McCullough of Longview, two sons, Dennis Chmelar and his wife Jenny of Ennis and Maxon Chmelar also of Ennis; one grandson, Matthew Gurecky of Lewisville, three granddaughters, Jennifer Williams and her husband Robert of Ennis, Cheryl Tovar and her husband Sam of Midlothian and Kassidy McCullough of Longview, four great-grandchildren, Mikayla Williams,

Miranda Williams, Addyson Williams and Nathan Williams all of Ennis, and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Joe Elsik, Charles Kovar and Maxon Kovar, and a sister, Ida Kovar all of Houston. Her husband, Charles Chmelar, preceded her in death in 2003.

The family wishes to thank two very special caregivers, Alecia Hunt and Kelly Bowers. Their love and support was beyond measure. The family also extends its gratitude to Bristol Hospice.

Honoring her last decisions, a private graveside service was held at Myrtle Cemetery, Ennis, with Jeanette West of Presbyterian Church of Salado officiating. Interment was under the direction of J. E Keever Mortuary, Inc.
