Pedro "Pete" Martinez, 61, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 30, 2021, departing for his eternal reward with God, family and love by his side. We will miss him terribly, especially his incredible sense of humor and commitment to living life to the fullest, but are comforted in knowing that we will see him again without his broken earthly body. His spirit will be intact by the Grace and Spirit of our Lord.

Pete was born on August 28, 1959 in Cameron, Texas, the oldest son of Juan and Sebastiana Martinez. He attended Ennis High School after the family moved here and lived in Ennis for the rest of his life. Pete had many passions, including classic rock and Tejano music. He attended countless concerts, including the legendary Texxas Jam at the Cotton Bowl in 1978, and had an encyclopedic knowledge of Spanish music that spanned Little Joe, the Latin Breed, Grupo Mazz, Selena, Emilio, David Lee Garza and so many others. Pete also loved sports and thoroughly enjoyed seeing the Dallas Cowboys and Dallas Mavericks win titles in his lifetime. Other passions were grilling barbecue chicken to his precise standards and playing championship-level pool. Most of all, he will be remembered for being a dedicated and loyal son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to so many people whose lives he touched.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Juan in 2006 and Sebastiana in 2008, his grandparents, and more recently by his beloved uncle Guadalupe Martinez in August 2020. He is survived by three sisters, Elena Martinez of Ennis, Rose and her husband, Ruben Cervantes of Ennis, and Delia and her husband, Tom Howard of Ennis; one brother, Henry Martinez and his wife, Teresa Martinez of Ennis; 11 nephews and nieces, Christopher Cervantes of Dallas, Adam and Vincent Cervantes, Crystal Gomez, Holly Fira, Amber Fira, Rikki Benavidez and Michael Martinez of Ennis, Christina Benavidez of Cedar Hill, April Benavidez of Fort Worth, and Reyna Bishop of Arlington; three aunts, Cecilia Munoz of Waxahachie, Maria Cerda of Ponca City, Okla., and Amy Rodriguez of Lubbock; two uncles, Ramon Rodriguez of Robstown and Juan Rodriguez of Southland; and numerous cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m. followed by the reciting of the Rosary at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 3 at the Keever Chapel. Private services will be held on Thursday, Feb. 4 followed by interment at St. Joseph Cemetery.
