Raymond was born in Amarillo, TX and moved to Crossroads, TX as a young boy. He graduated from Malakoff High School, attended Henderson Junior College and graduated from Stephen F. Austin University before settling in Ennis, TX to make a home and raise a family.

Raymond began his professional career as a teacher for Eustace ISD before moving on to teach and coach for Ore City ISD. During his early career, he was also an instructor at the Texas Driving School in Dallas. He went on to own and operate Colortyme rent-to-own stores in both Ennis and Hillsboro for 20 years. Ready for a slower pace, he returned to his career roots and became a substitute teacher and driving instructor in his last years before retirement, this time at Ennis ISD and the Midlothian Driving School.

Raymond was a hard worker who enjoyed unwinding by going on annual family vacations. Many adventures were had and memories made driving across the country to get to each destination, mostly to the mountains or the beach. He spent much of his free time tending the farm feeding and herding cows. His favorite way to spend a day was getting lost in his favorite classic television shows such as Gunsmoke or Perry Mason.

Raymond is survived by his wife of 51 years, Connie Martinek Lewis, daughter Suzanne Lewis (Andrew and Macey) of Round Rock, TX, son Jonathan Lewis of Ennis, TX, sisters Patricia Kinabrew, Kaye Lynn Newman (Bill) and Vickie Mandeville (Dan) of the Athens, TX area, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Raymond is preceded in death by his parents, Ura Lloyd Lewis and Winona Sanders Lewis, as well as his sisters Era Louise Maresh and Carolyn Sue Lewis.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. A celebration of life officiated by Bill Newman will immediately follow beginning at 2 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis. After the services, everyone is invited to gather at the SPJST Lodge in Ennis, TX.
