A memorial reception for Ronald James Spellman will be held Saturday, May 14, at 2:00pm at Baylor Baptist Church Dobbs Hall (210 N Preston St., Ennis, TX). Ronnie passed away on May 8, 2022 at the age of 83. He was born October 16, 1938 in Cleburne, Texas to Frances Virginia Collard and James Patrick Spellman. He moved to Ennis at the age of 3 and lived there the remainder of his life. He was a member of the EHS Class of 57 and attended Navarro College, and East Texas State College in Commerce, TX. He married Carol Martin on May 20, 1967 and they raised two reasonably well-adjusted children. They joined Baylor Baptist Church in 1970 which has blessed them with deeply treasured friendships and a loving church family that has offered care and support during the years.

Ronnie never met a stranger and always had a story to tell…some more true than others. He began his career in sales at Ennis Business Forms in 1963 and retired as a Customer Service Manager in 1997. In retirement he was able to fully enjoy a variety of hobbies. It's fair to say that trains were his passion. He was an integral part in the creation of the Ennis Railroad & Cultural Museum where he served as a volunteer. He was responsible for procuring a caboose and getting it to Ennis. He had many interests and ideas that usually led to many projects for Carol to carry out. Of all the roles he has played there was none more important than being Papa to his four grandchildren. He loved them immensely.

Ronnie is survived by his wife, Carol; son Patrick Spellman and wife, Lori; daughter Jennifer Philo and husband, Craig; grandchildren Jonathan and Corban Philo, Caroline and Jackson Spellman; in-laws Wayne Evans, and Guy and Kay Martin; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, step-father George A. Berry, sisters Betty Ann Evans, and Cathy Hrbacek Green.
