Sylvia Louise Smith passed away on November 8, 2023, in Ennis, Texas.

Sylvia was born on December 19, 1932, in El Paso, Arkansas, to Morris and Ozella Quick. She grew up on a farm in a strong Christian family with three brothers and two sisters. Sylvia is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Derwin Smith, her parents, her brothers Nealon, Nolan, and Wayne, and sister Mildred. She is survived by her sister, Bonnie, son, Richard (Rick), her daughters, Charlotte, Melinda, and Sandra, their spouses, and four grandchildren.

Sylvia will best be remembered for her loving heart, her giving spirit, and her devotion to the Lord. She loved to shop, and she left a lasting impression on everyone around her from family, to friends, caregivers, medical teams, pharmacists, and store associates. Sylvia always looked for opportunities to lift others up whether through a little cross necklace, a compliment, a word of encouragement, a hug, a card or letter, or food. She was known for her homemade pralines and hot pepper relish (sweet hot or hot hot). It has been made obvious to the family the impact she has had on the community through her simple acts of kindness and being the little light that shines for God's love. We appreciate everyone sharing their personal stories of how she impacted you.

We are sad to lose Sylvia here on earth but rejoice that she is with Jesus, reunited with Richard and all of those who have gone before her, and will be ready for us to join her someday.

We will be gathering to honor and celebrate her life on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at 2:00pm at Baylor Baptist Church in Ennis, Texas. She will be buried at 2:00pm on Monday, November 13, 2023, at Spires Cemetery in Damascus, Arkansas. Everyone is welcome to join the family to celebrate her homegoing.
